Man Sentenced For False Report Regarding YDC Investigation
Attorney General John M. Formella and State Police Colonel Nathan Noyes announce that on October 4, 2022, Travis Garand, age 24, of Epping, New Hampshire, pleaded guilty to one count of false report to law enforcement. This arrest was made by New Hampshire State Police as a result of the ongoing investigation into the Youth Development Center (YDC).
Mr. Garand was convicted of knowingly giving false information to a law enforcement officer with the purpose of inducing such officer to believe that another has committed an offense by telling Troopers Amanda Johnson and Matthew Podell that a person named “J.B.,” had attempted to commit the crime of aggravated felonious sexual assault (RSA 632-A:2) upon him.
Mr. Garand was sentenced to 12 months in the house of corrections, stand committed, with 3 months suspended for a period of 2 years upon his release. Mr. Garand was also sentenced to 2 years of probation upon his release from the house of corrections. During his probation Mr. Garand is to undergo substance use disorder treatment.
This matter was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Dan Jimenez and Attorney Zachary Wolf.
