Watch As Car Is Pulled From Lake Massabesic After Man Was Rescued By Bystanders

Updated: Mar 28, 2022

AUBURN, NH - Auburn Fire Rescue, Derry Fire-EMS, Auburn Police responded to a report of a vehicle that had driven into Lake Massabesic from Front Park on Londonderry Tpk. on Sunday.

Conflicting reports came in as to whether the vehicle was occupied or not while responders were en route. When Auburn Police arrived, they found a man had been removed from the submerged vehicle by bystanders who saw the vehicle go into the lake. The man who was cold and shaken up was able to walk to a cruiser and wait for EMS to arrive.

Responders verified the man was the only person in the vehicle and did a medical evaluation. He was then transported to the Elliot Hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

Auburn Fire put rescue personnel in the water to place oil-absorbing booms around the vehicle in order to secure the vehicle to prevent it from going further into the lake.

Firefighters, using a cable secured to the back of the vehicle, used a winch to partially remove it from the water. Grant Towing used a large tow truck to remove the vehicle from the lake and up the embankment.

Witnesses say the man was sitting in the vehicle and for unknown reasons drove forward. The vehicle went over a rock wall, down a small embankment, and into the lake.

Manchester Water Works and WaterShed Patrol were on scene and will assist Auburn Police in the investigation of any damage done to the property or lake.
