Pick-Up Truck Leaves Path Of Destruction, Closes Valley St For Hours

MANCHESTER, NH - A single vehicle took down several utility poles, and power lines closing a busy Manchester street on Thursday morning.


A small pickup truck struck utility poles on Valley Street near Lincoln Street at about 5:30 a.m. The falling utility poles pulled down additional power lines up the street causing transformers to crash to the ground.


The intersection is located just outside the Manchester Police Headquarters and the Department of Public Works.


Manchester Fire, police, and AMR ambulance all responded to the scene and safely removed the seriously injured man from the truck. The man was transported from the scene by AMR ambulance with what police describe as serious injuries.


Manchester Police said the driver was a 40-year-old man from Raymond but did not provide his name.


Valley Street was closed between Maple Street and Wilson Street for the day while crews from Eversource, Consolidate Communications, and Xfinity made repairs. Clean Harbors was called to the scene to remove the damaged and leaking transformers.
