Manchester Prepares for Election Day with Free Rides to Polls and Electronic Voter Checklists
The City of Manchester is once again preparing for a successful election on Tuesday, with the City announcing multiple services to support residents in exercising their right to vote — including electronic voter checklists and free rides to the polls on local fixed bus routes. This comes after Manchester saw a smooth election in September with the incredibly successful rollout of these new services and processes.
“From electronic voter checklists to the MTA’s offering of free rides to the polls, our City is once again stepping up to ensure residents are supported in casting their vote,” said Mayor Joyce Craig. “I applaud the Manchester Transit Authority, the Clerk’s Office, and all the dedicated City employees and volunteers whose hard work allows for smooth and successful elections in our city. I encourage residents to utilize this service and cast their ballot tomorrow.”
After a successful trial run during the municipal primary on Sept. 19, electronic voter checklists will be used in all city wards for the municipal general election. Electronic checklists have resulted in shorter lines for primary voters, with check-in times reduced to an average of 13 seconds per voter.
In addition, Manchester Transit Authority announced it will be continuing its offering of free rides to and from the polls for Manchester residents on Election Day. This service will again cover all 12 wards and will continue on Tuesday, November 7.
If residents inform the bus driver that they are commuting to or from the polls, they will be able to ride the local fixed routes for free. This service will not work for the intercity buses to Nashua and Concord, but residents will have access to these free rides to/from the polls on all the buses within the City of Manchester. The COAST public transit system offers free bus services to and from the polls on Election Day in communities including Dover, Rochester and Portsmouth.
