Man Attempts To Assault Officers With Chain After Stealing Drinks
A male from Claremont attempted to assault officers with a chain on Sunday around 5:30pm as Officers were investigating a disturbance at a local convenience store. The incident began at the 7-Eleven at 242 Beech St when police were called for the report of a male, who was wearing a large chain, causing a disturbance. Callers reported that the male was being disorderly and swinging the chain around. Employees at 7-Eleven told responding officers that the male also stole drinks from the store. Patrol officers located the male, who was identified as 20-year-old Gabriel Wonsang from Claremont, New Hampshire, walking in the area of Silver St and Maple St. Officer approached the male to identify him and investigate further, but he initially refused to stop. Wonsang then quickly turned toward the officers, began removing the heavy metal chain from his torso in attempt to swing it at officers, and threw a punch at one officer. Officers were able to take Wonsang to the ground where a violent struggle ensued. Wonsang continued to assault officers and a Taser was used to subdue him and take him into custody. Wonsang was charged with:
2 counts of Criminal Threatening with a Deadly Weapon (Felonies) -1 count of Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor)
3 counts of Simple Assault on a Police Officer (Misdemeanors)
3 counts of Criminal Mischief (Misdemeanors)
1 count of Theft by Unauthorized Taking (Misdemeanors)
At the time of his arrest, Wonsang was out on bail from a previous criminal mischief arrest. Additionally, he was found to have an active warrant from Manchester Circuit Court – District Division.
Wonsang is scheduled to be arraigned at Hillsborough County Superior Court on Monday, July 18, 2022.
These charges are only allegations. He is presumed to be innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
