Captured: Last Week's Fugitive Of The Week
The United States Marshals Service – NH Joint Fugitive Task Force is very happy to announce that last week’s “Fugitive of the Week” was arrested this morning by the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Worcester, Mass.
Melvin James Campbell, IV, 21 years-of-age, who was last known to reside in Nashua, NH was featured last Wednesday as the “Fugitive of the Week.” Mr. Campbell was being sought in connection with an armed burglary that occurred this past March in Nashua.
As part of this feature as the “Fugitive of the Week,” Campbell had been aired on WTPL-FM, WNTK-FM, WTSN-FM, WEMJ-FM, The Union Leader, The Nashua Telegraph, The Patch, Foster’s Daily Democrat, Manchester Information, the Manchester Ink Link, the Rochester Voice and prominently featured on the internet. The “Fugitive of the Week” continues to be a very successful tool that has resulted in the location and arrest of numerous fugitives since its creation in 2007. Additionally, the “Fugitive of the Week” was distributed statewide to all law enforcement officers in New Hampshire.
The US Marshal’s, New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force worked closely with the Nashua Police Department and the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Massachusetts to follow up on tips and to develop leads to track down Mr. Campbell. Based on these efforts, members of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force from both NH and Massachusetts were able to locate Mr. Campbell inside a business in downtown Worcester this morning, where he was arrested without incident. Campbell was turned over to the Worcester (MA) Police Department, where he was charged as a fugitive from justice based on the outstanding Nashua arrest warrant. Campbell will be held at the Worcester County Jail without bail pending his return to New Hampshire to face these very serious allegations.
This arrest was made by the cooperative efforts of the following member agencies that comprise the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force; the Nashua & Worcester (MA) Police Departments, the Massachusetts State Police, the Strafford & Worcester (MA) County Sheriff’s Departments, along with deputy US Marshals.
Since the inception of the U.S. Marshals - New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force in 2002, these partnerships have resulted in over 8,542 arrests (Updated as of 12/31/2021). These arrests have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other serious offenses. Nationally the United States Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, 8 regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
